Bad Teacher: Can Bad Sometimes Be Good?

After hearing all of the positive things said by the promotion team for Bad Teacher, we decided to go see what it's really all about.  Well, we did, but what did Bad Teacher teach us about movies?

Odds are that you’ve seen the trailers for what seems to be one of summer’s funniest movies, Bad Teacher. Starring Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, and Jason Segel, the movie was hyped up to be one of the best to come, but does it live up to the hype?

I’d like to start out by saying that I respect each of these artists for what they do. Everyone that is in Bad Teacher is successful in some way or another, and that is fantastic! However, I don’t think this was their time to shine.

Cameron Diaz’s character, Elizabeth Halsey, was pretty funny when put up against her rival goody two-shoes teacher Amy Squirrel. They were so different that they clashed and it was pretty entertaining, but that entertainment was short-lived. I partially blame this on Squirrel’s character, mainly the fact that she was to “uppity” throughout the film. Oh, and that squirrel thing she does with her mouth is really annoying, too. I’m still wondering what happened in 2008.

Then we have Timberlake’s character Scott DeLacorte, who is never fully explained. Honestly, he’s just weird. He’s very distant and agrees with anyone at any time.

The best part of the movie is Segel’s character Russell Gettis. The way he acted and his joke timing was right on point. It was always a relief to see Segel in the movie, and he wasn’t there enough. and if it wasn’t for Gettis, this movie would have gone totally down in flames.

Overall, I’d rent this when it comes out, but don’t rush over to see it. You’ve seen most of the best parts in the trailer, and even those parts were edited down into unfunny-ness. Not to mention that there are lot of questions, and not many answers here. Sorry to say it, but Bad Teacher is an ironic name for what it did to Comedy films.
